Get Started. Nov 17, John DeVito. This disk will hold any common file system items that must be failed over when the application is failed over between cluster nodes. These file system items can be things such as log files, configuration files, or temporary locations. It all depends on the requirements of the application. The application may need to be reconfigured to used shared storage for these file system items, and it may be necessary to create folders and file manually on the shared storage for use by the application.
Specify any registry keys that need to be replicated between nodes for use during a failover situation at the Replicate Registry Settings screen. As with the file system items in the previous screen, it all depends on the requirements of the application being clustered.
Finally, you will be presented with the Confirmation screen, where you should verify the information shown and click Next The Generic Service will be created in the cluster, making your chosen application part of your cluster. Review the Summary screen to verify that the role was configured successfully and click Finish to close the High Availability Wizard The Generic Service role now appears in the Failover Cluster Manager console as shown.
Note the Owner Name, specifying the Node that is currently running the service. Looking at the services on the node specified as the owner in the previous step you will note that the service in this case 1E NightWatchman Console is running and the Startup Type is set to Manual. A clustered service will use a Startup Type of Manual since the cluster takes responsibility over the OS for starting the clustered services.
If you look at the other node it may still indicate an Automatic Startup Type but there is no cause for concern. The cluster service will correct that without any need for intervention. Expand the cluster object Right click on the Roles node Select Configure Role… from the context menu. At the Client Access Point screen, configure the service with a Name for the clustered application and an IP address to be used when accessing the application.
Select a clustered disk to assign to the role in the Select Storage screen. Finally, you will be presented with the Confirmation screen, where you should verify the information shown and click Next. To confirm that the cluster was created, verify that the cluster name is listed under Failover Cluster Manager in the navigation tree.
You can expand the cluster name, and then select items under Nodes , Storage or Networks to view the associated resources. Realize that it may take some time for the cluster name to successfully replicate in DNS. After successful DNS registration and replication, if you select All Servers in Server Manager, the cluster name should be listed as a server with a Manageability status of Online.
After the cluster is created, you can do things such as verify cluster quorum configuration, and optionally, create Cluster Shared Volumes CSV. Use Server Manager or Windows PowerShell to install the role or feature that is required for a clustered role on each failover cluster node. For example, if you want to create a clustered file server, install the File Server role on all cluster nodes. The following table shows the clustered roles that you can configure in the High Availability Wizard and the associated server role or feature that you must install as a prerequisite.
To verify that the clustered role was created, in the Roles pane, make sure that the role has a status of Running. The Roles pane also indicates the owner node.
To test failover, right-click the role, point to Move , and then select Select Node. In the Owner Node column, verify that the owner node changed. The following Windows PowerShell cmdlets perform the same functions as the preceding procedures in this topic.
Enter each cmdlet on a single line, even though they may appear word-wrapped across several lines because of formatting constraints. The following example runs all cluster validation tests on computers that are named Server1 and Server2. The Test-Cluster cmdlet outputs the results to a log file in the current working directory. When you enter the public host name, use the primary host name of each node, that is, the name displayed by the hostname command.
The virtual node name is the name to be associated with the VIP for the node. The private node refers to an address that is only accessible by the other nodes in this cluster, and which Oracle uses for Cache Fusion processing.
You should enter the private host name for each node. Click Next after you have entered the cluster configuration information. This saves your entries and opens the Specify Network Interface Usage page.
The default setting for each interface is Do Not Use. You must classify at least one interface as Public and one as Private.
Highlight each of these disks one at a time and click Edit to open the Specify Disk Configuration page where you define the details for the selected disk. The OUI page described in this step displays logical drives from which you must make your selections. If you are installing on a cluster with an existing cluster file system from an earlier release of Oracle, then the OCR and voting disk will be stored in that file system. In this case, you do not require new partitions for the OCR and voting disk, even if you do not format a logical drive for data file storage.
On the Specify Disk Configuration page, designate whether you want to place a copy of the OCR, a copy of the voting disk, or a copy of both files on the partition.
If you plan to use OCFS, then indicate whether you plan to store software, database files, or both software and database files on selected disk. For OCFS, disks, select an available drive letter to be used to mount the partition once formatted. After you click Next, OUI checks whether the remote inventories are set. If they are not set, then OUI sets up the remote inventories by setting registry keys. OUI also verifies the permissions to enable writing to the inventory directories on the remote nodes.
After completing these actions, OUI displays a Summary page that shows the cluster node information along with the space requirements and availability. Verify the installation that OUI is about to perform and click Finish. After validating the installation, OUI completes the Oracle Clusterware software installation and configuration on the remote nodes.
For installations of Oracle Clusterware on a system that also contains Oracle9 i Real Application Clusters, note these additional considerations and complete the steps as necessary:. Restart all of the newly installed Oracle Database 10 g cluster member nodes.
You can restart one node at a time so that availability of Oracle9 i databases is not disrupted. A cluster configuration file is a text file that you can create before starting OUI, which provides OUI with information about the cluster name and node names that it needs to configure the cluster. Oracle suggests that you consider using a cluster configuration file if you intend to perform repeated installations on a test cluster, or if you intend to perform an installation on many nodes. In addition, for Windows Server , you must have administrator privileges and run commands from an Administrative command prompt to run executables that reside in the Oracle Clusterware home. This can be due to not providing the administrative user on each node with the same password. Action: When you install Oracle Clusterware, each member node of the cluster must have user equivalency for the Administrative privileges account that installs the database.
This means that the administrative privileges user account and password must be the same on all nodes. CVU provides a list of nodes on which user equivalence failed.
