Trial by jury journal book

Fant, Golden Rey Treevor, Mally Mute get a little tired pretty early on, I think the novelty of the names would be entertaining for a lot of kids. The alternating images, radio transcriptions, and other evidence help keep kids engaged. It's not a unique storytelling concept, but it is used to good effect here. My favorite part about the book is that I think it presents everything in an intelligent and dignified manner, making no assumptions about its readers but not underestimating them, either.

The book does suffer a bit from underdeveloped characters with the exception of Lily Watson, the main protagonist and I feel like the teacher, Mr Holmes, had an interesting presence that disappeared almost completely for most of the book.

It's difficult to tell a story with deep characters when there is very little actual prose in the story. The mystery, the absurdity, the wacky drawings, and the cartoonishly villainous antagonist all come together to make a book that is worth recommending to young readers and maybe worth a quick read for the inner-child in all of us.

I loved this book as a child and I still think it's just brilliant. It is full of atrocious puns and crazy plot lines and I just love it. I think this book is out of print but if you can get your hands on it for you or your children I highly recommend it!

For one thing, it's not the boring-type chapter after chapter book I don't mean that those books are boring, but a lot of those books are boring, NOT all of them of course. It's a nearly impossible story, but it's very very interesting to guess what comes next in this mystery. In this book, I guess why so and so happens and right in the next sentence, it says in plain sight rather than pretending that the person, Lily Anabel Watson, doesn't know what it means. Good way to make the reader think that the character is NOT dumb.

Mar 08, Sana rated it it was amazing. I read this back in elementary, when there really weren't many books to choose from in my library. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to read it because it looked so strange. I ended up liking it a lot I don't know why, but that's often the deal with children's books.

I ended up reading the others as well because they were so good. The author really knows how to write. Trial by Journal is a great example of a children's novel that uses a collective format. With a format reminiscent of My Secret War Diary by Marcia Williams, this book uses personal narration in the form of a journal augmented by newspaper clippings, secret notes, drawings, flyers, tickets, and more. Readers should not expect this book to be a good representation of the legal process however you can learn more about how trials work.

Feb 26, Amanda McGill rated it it was amazing Shelves: childrens-books , prior-to-goodreads. I remember loving this novel when I was younger. Thinking about the plot now, it is highly unrealistic, but it was interesting to learn what the jurors on a high profile murder trial go through.

I loved Lily and loved the unique writing style of learning about the trial through Lily's journal and newspaper. Jun 25, Julie rated it really liked it Shelves: children-s-books , fun-books. I wish that this site would let me give this book 4. It was a fun read, and I think that the year old set will really enjoy it. The protagonist is engaging, and her journal entries read realistically. Also, I particularly liked the alternating narrative devices -- journal entries, newspaper reports, trail transcripts, illustrations, autobiographical excerpts -- what a clever way to tell a story and introduce information about how a jury trial works!

I wish that I'd thought of it. It was neat, too, to see that 2 sisters collaborated and produced the book together. The only thing that I found slightly distracting -- and annoying -- were the characters' names. At first, I found it amusing and fun to figure out how the different characters' names played on animals, or reptiles, they favored in some way.

But after a while it seemed a little too clever and cutesy. Still, my yr. I'd highly recommend this book. I love Kate Klise and how she writes her children's book. The way she writes makes the books easy to read and gets younger readers more into reading.

I liked this book but I did find that out of all her books this one was a bit harder to fallow and really get into, the idea is great but there is something about the way it comes together seems a bit odd. I love how the story introduces the young reader to a the judicial system, from the view of lily, a young juror a school aged juror. The writi I love Kate Klise and how she writes her children's book.

The writing is done by joural entries, news clipings, notes, photos and other items that relate to the case. Klises writting also is fun to read for the fun word play, other little jokes, and the coverstations between what Lily wrote or collected and her teacher that she is writting the report for. I would not say that this is a book for someone just getting into reading longer books or just starting to read her books I would say start with her " letters regarging Jun 01, Molly rated it did not like it.

I appear to be the only one who didn't enjoy this book. I mostly found it cheesier than necessary. A story told through letters, etc. For one thing, the names of the characters bothered me. I didn't see any point in people having names like "Rhett Tyle" and "Anna Conda". For me, that just made the book cheesier instead of cleverer.

Aug 05, Cleo rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: young with a love of art and mystery. I really love this book, as well as most of Kate Klise's because of the format of letters and clippings, and of course the characters. It is the story of a missing boy, an accused old man, a huge zoo with a new gorilla act and a suspicious owner, and the first young girl on jury duty - which might be just what the case needs.

The book takes place in a town called Tyle Country where Tyle Zoo resides. Rhett Tyle is the owner, and he employed both the old man, and the boy, Terry.

He is the wealthie I really love this book, as well as most of Kate Klise's because of the format of letters and clippings, and of course the characters. He is the wealthiest man in the country, but what you might not know is he is much more than just the owner of a carefree zoo. Trial by Journal is one of my favorite books. It is by the author Kate Klise who has a unique writing style that I really enjoy. The main character, Lily, has been selected to be on the jury for a major case. Someone has gone missing and the suspect in custody swears that he is innocent.

During the trial, Lily keeps a journal. That is the main way that the story is told; through journal entries. The story also has newspaper clippings, transcripts, dry cleaning bills and many other non-convention Trial by Journal is one of my favorite books.

Trial by Journal is a unique and creative tale about; as an experiment; a girl is selected for jury duty in a murder trial. The jury itself is wacky, one member being an old actress who secretly goes skinny dipping at night! The mystery's unraveling is fairly predictable, but the book's hyperbolic tone, all-in-fun parodies and hilarious illustrations all of which center around an animal motif will keep readers involved and entertained. At times the zoo theme becomes cloying characters' names include Bob White, suspected of year-old Perry Keet's murder, and Rhett Tyle, a parasitic mega-tycoon, as well as fellow jurors Fawn Papillon, an aging movie star, Anna Conda, designer of exotic fashions, and Bernie "Buzz" Ard, a gossip columnist.

This three-ring circus, with Lily as capable ringmaster, will set in motion readers' flights of fancy from beginning to end, when a "wolf in sheep's clothing" receives his comeuppance and the innocent "jailbird" is set free.
